Hi Shep. Looked at this last night. Looked at the first band listed, Spectrum/Murtceps on YouTube. Listened to the one album immediately shown and realised this list of yours is going to send me down a long rabbit hole. I wrote the whole list of bands down this morning. So over the next few weeks can seek out the sounds. Some glorious names to these bands! We had some mates who called their band Black Parrot Seaside. It got me thinking about how bands choose their names. And what influences them. I love a guy called Francis Dunnery. He was Robert Plant’s guitarist. Francis had a band called It Bites. I reckon a dog was involved maybe. Or maybe the music ‘bites’. Who knows.
He has a recent song on YouTube called ‘Call me the comeback boy’. I feel you may like the vibe. Cheers Shep.
You were right. Tombstone was right up my alley. Good name for a band? Was he writing about you? Loved the groove and the video was captivating. 🙏 Gray. Ol’ Harp Hound Hisself. PS: We had a Tassie band in the early 80’s called MEO 245 refers to the catalogue number of a French/German import EP released by the Beatles.
It would have been nice if Francis had given me a call and said I inspired him for the song title. 😆 I’ve played that video a fair few times now. Not sure about the Tombstone name though. He’s an interesting guy. YouTube has some great uploads where he just chats about life and music. Lots of the use of F**k though. Isn’t shy on that one. But it is worth a visit to see his views on recording music at home, etc. There are two Francis Dunnery YouTube sites. The one I really like is his chatting one. Comeback Boy is on that one. Love his Bass player’s style. MEO 245 sound like they should be electronic. I’ll have to find out now. Cheers Shep.
I probably could have made the band name clearer – Right Up My Alley. My son and I often banter with names either being a good band name or racehorse name. S
Tombstone reminds me of westerns. I watched a couple of videos with his new sound. Very blues driven. I’ve got most of Francis’s albums. He has many varied eclectic styles. His song writing is beautiful Shep. Love his YouTube explanations of his songs themes. Very emotional. Sounds like your names could be fun. My first band was called Jazalyn. Jane, Hazel, Rosalyn. A mix of our girlfriend’s names shortened to a couple of letters each. Then Soft Ground from off a Mott the Hoople album. Team 23 was because it was 2 members from one band and 3 from another joining up. So a Team of 2 and 3. Facebook had the July Jagfest line up now. We are playing on the last of three days. The Sunday. We’re on with five other bands. The Dirt Road Band are a 3 piece with a Badfinger drummer, Dr. Feelgood guitarist and the bass player from The Specials. My brother supported a band with the Feelgoods guitarist. Steve had to loan him his guitar for the gig! I had to loan my bass amp and speakers out once when we supported Black Slate, a reggae band. Sorry Shep. I’m in reminiscing mood! And feeling panicked now the reality of the gig in print has bitten. So tripping out word salad. 😊 All the best.
